Lympstone Open Gardens raises a record breaking total

In July this last year a very special and magical event happened in the village of Lympstone

Sheila, one of our supporters had a dream that she wanted to fulfil " my dream is to hold an event to raise money for Exmouth & Lympstone Hospiscare as my thanks for all the care we received during John's illness, we couldn't have managed without them" quoted Sheila.

Late last year after talking over her plans with her family and friends along with our Chairman, Frances & Income Generation Trustee, Pam the planning of organising an Open Gardens event began.

Initially there were about 10 garden owners who showed an interest in being involved in this wonderful idea but as the months passed the event grew. There was a formal lunch in Sheila’s Garden on Saturday 1st July, a ‘Potter & Prosseco’ evening on Friday 14th July, 2017 followed by 12 Gardens and Heathfield allotments opening to the public over the weekend of 15th/16th July, 2017

The Open Garden weekend included a Scarecrow event, with over 50 scarecrows popping up all over the village and what a sight they were, the village residents certainly have a lot of imagination! There was a raffle with over 50 prizes kindly donated and a silent auction that raised £2000 alone with just 3 of the most valuable lots. Five of the gardens also offered wonderful refreshments over the whole weekend.

The staggering and magnificent result of all of this effort was a donation of £15,225.49 given to Exmouth & Lympstone Hospiscare. What an amazing lady Sheila is, not forgetting her committee of friends and the residents of Lympstone who worked so hard to produce such a fabulous weekend.
