Hospiscare Exmouth & Lympstone

Frequently asked questions

Below are the answers to some questions you may wish to ask, if you require any further assistance then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Who can volunteer for us?

Hospiscare Exmouth & Lympstone would like to hear from anyone who is interested in volunteering with us. We have a variety of tasks to suit everyone. However, we would recommend that anyone who has had a recent bereavement should not consider being a volunteer for at least a year after their loss.

Do we run checks on volunteers?

We will ask you to complete an application form and provide two referees. As you will be working with vulnerable patients, carers and families, we do check all of our employees, including volunteers.

In certain areas of work volunteers are required under the Care Standards Act 2000 to apply for disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service. If this check is necessary, we will assist you with the form. There is no charge for this check.

Because of the sensitive nature of the duties involved, this voluntary work is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, therefore a declaration must be completed to include details of criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings and other information that may have a bearing on suitability for voluntary work.

Do we pay expenses?

Volunteers can claim for mileage, parking and other expenses associated with the role.

When can I start?

If you are working with the Fundraising Team you could start immediately after you application has been agreed, other roles could take up to 3-6 weeks depending on if a DBS check is required.

We will provide you with the training and support that you need to prepare you for working with us.
